  • Powering India’s Fields: PM-KUSUM Component-A and the Solar Revolution
post10

At Greentree Solar, we are proud to align with national initiatives that transform the energy landscape and uplift communities. One such program lighting the path to a sustainable and energy-secure future is PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evamUtthaanMahabhiyan)—specifically, Component-A, which is a game-changer for India’s rural power sector.

What Is PM-KUSUM Component-A?

Component-A of PM-KUSUM focuses on:

Installation of grid-connected, ground-mounted solar power plants of capacity up to 2 MW, primarily on barren, fallow, or agricultural land.

These decentralized solar plants feed electricity directly into the local grid, enabling state DISCOMs to procure clean energy at low cost while providing a new revenue stream for land-owning farmers and cooperatives.

Why Component-A Matters

  1. Farmer Empowerment
Farmers or cooperatives lease unused land to solar developers or develop the projects themselves. This brings them:
  • A stable lease income for 25 years
  • An opportunity to co-own or co-develop energy assets
  • Assurance of dual land use (e.g., elevated panels with crop cultivation or grazing below)

2. Rural Electrification & Grid Stability
Localized solar generation reduces transmission losses and enhances grid reliability in rural areas.

3. Clean Energy Milestone
Each megawatt installed under Component-A offsets over 1,500 tonnes of CO₂ annually, helping India inch closer to its Net-Zero 2070 goals.
